Post Bar's specials are designed to draw crowdsUrsula Watson / The Detroit NewsThe Post Bar's mascot is an elephant sporting cool, dark shades and gripping a broken post in its trunk. But the prices of food and drinks are far from elephantine at the popular venue. With six locations (Auburn Hills, Dearborn, Detroit, East Lasing, Ferndale and Novi), the Post Bar offers daily wallet-friendly specials. The specials are a calculated effort, says Darrel Krause, general manager of the Novi and the Auburn Hills locations. "In this economy, we are trying to get people in the door. They can save a few bucks, have a good time and leave with a couple bucks so they can go out the next time." Post Bar Novi has a more club-like atmosphere than other locations, says Krause. A DJ spins Top-40 music favorites and some back-in-the-day goodies on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. When the groove hits you, there is a dance floor. Mike Sutton says he is a regular at the Novi location. Every Friday, Sutton and his friends come out and unwind, says the 23-year-old Northville resident. "Me and my buddies come here a lot because it is fun," Sutton says. The Schoolcraft College student also appreciates the drink specials that treat his piggy bank with care, even during the week. "You can't beat $1 beers on Wednesday," Sutton says. "It (The Post Bar) offers great prices and has a really friendly staff." The sizeable Novi location is equipped with several flat-screen TVs at the entrance and two separate bars. In addition to the dance floor, there is a lounge area that includes big, comfy couches. In the back of the bar, there is another huge bar and more TVs -- a great place to watch a game and get away from the pumping music. uwatson@detnews.com (313) 222-2613 BACK |
